Heritage Centre needs volunteers

March Sunday 06, 2011

RSES Canada has graciously donated its collection of refrigeration and HVAC equipment to the HVACR Heritage Centre Canada. Gathered over many years, it represented eight pallets of systems, parts, components, catalogues and related archives donated by many members. It was shipped from Alberta by the generosity of Keith Werner of Independent Supply to Toronto in October where the Centre’s other collections are located. Independent Supply is also one of our newest funding supporters.

The Centre invites the assistance of any RSES member or other HVACR individuals who would welcome the opportunity to contribute in recording this history of the Industry.  The RSES Collection, as it will be known, will ultimately be posted to the Centre’s website at www.hvacrheritagecentre.ca where its 350-item Founding T.H. Oliver Collection is on display for all to see, as well as at the CMX-CIPHEX shows in Toronto. The T.H. Oliver archival collection also needs to be documented, as do other collections received for the Centre's new online documentary 'Warming Up: Automated heating and Social Change.

The Heritage Centre also welcomes contributions from the Industry on historic sites and installations still in place in many buildings. Digital photos of any such equipment is what the Centre requires with some background information on where each system is located and when it might have been installed, for example. Contact Ron Shuker, Executive director, at automatedheating@gmail.com, or 905-473-2287.
The Heritage Centre’s curator, Leslie Oliver, has very recently identified three old pieces of equipment for visitors to its website from Hong Kong, Rochester, New York, and Ohio.
